The Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commission will meet Friday, February 7, at the Fish, Wildlife & Parks headquarters in Helena. On the agenda for the meeting, which is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m., is the adoption of final 1997 spring turkey and spring black bear harvest quotas, as well as the adoption of final harvest quotas for hunts that may be conducted if necessary over the winter of 1997-98 to reduce game damage problems.

At its meeting in Helena on February 7, the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commission will be asked to approve more than a dozen new project proposals to enhance Montana's fisheries. The total of 27 project proposals were recommended for funding from among 32 applications reviewed by FWP's Future Fisheries Review Panel at its meeting in Helena on January 23. The proposed projects would cost an estimated $435,800 in fishing license dollars.

Governor Marc Racicot has reappointed three members of the current Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commission to additional four-year terms. Stan Meyer, Great Falls, representing sportsmen and -women in FWP Commission District 3 (north-central Montana), will continue in his position as chairman of the citizen policy board for Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks.

Alan Charles of Miles City has been hired as the new landowner-sportsman relations coordinator by Fish, Wildlife & Parks. He replaces Michael Korn, who was appointed manager of FWP operations in the Helena area. Charles, who has been employed by the Montana Agricultural Experiment Station since 1989, has been extensively involved in landowner-sportsman issues in eastern Montana for several years.

Walleyes Unlimited of Montana presented a $1,000 Christmas donation to FWP to benefit the agency's TIP-MONT and Aquatic Education programs. "We hope the money is used to help prevent illegal introductions of fish into Montana's rivers and lakes," said Roger Larsen, of Walleye's Unlimited of Montana. "We also believe the best way to curb illegal introductions is through education.
