In 1855, on this site, Issac Stevens negotiated the Hellgate Treaty between the U. S. government and the Salish, Kootenai, and Pend d’Orielle Indians to create the Flathead Reservation. Come enjoy the ntural features and solitude of this day-use-only park for reflection on these historical events.

Council Grove State Park is located on the Clark Fork River 203 miles from the mouth on the right hand side as you face down stream. Kelly Island is the next access site up stream from Council Grove. Deep Creek is the next site down stream from Council Grove. Council Grove is one of 24 FWP managed sites on the Clark Fork River. .
In Missoula on I-90 at Reserve St. Exit, 2 miles south on Reserve St., then 10 miles west on Mullan Rd. (Lat 46.911, Lng -114.161)
