Primarily to provide winter range for elk and compatible recreational opportunities for the public.

In Ravalli County, Calf Creek WMA is located 8 miles east of Hamilton. From Missoula, take US Highway 93 south about 40 miles to the Corvallis turnoff. Turn east onto Route 373 and drive 2 miles to the town of Corvallis. Turn right (south) onto the East Side Highway then east on Hamilton Heights Road. Drive to the end of Hamilton Heights Road to WMA.   (Lat 46.278,  Lng  -113.98)

Area is open to non-motorized access from May 15 through December 1. Recreationists accompanied by dogs from May 15 through October 14. Partial opening April 15 through May 14. For more information, please contact the Region 2 Headquarter office.

Early Spring Restrictions

Restricted (4/15 - 5/14)
Area is partially open to non-motorized access between the hours of noon and sunset from April 15 to May 14. No firearms discharge, dogs, or camping allowed during this period.

Group Size Regulation

Restricted (5/15 - 12/01)
Permits required for all groups of more than 30 persons. A Recreational Use License is required to use state school trust land in the southeast quarter of section 16.

Hunting Season Dog Restriction

Restricted (10/15 - 12/01)
No dogs allowed from October 15 - December 1 AND April 15 - May 14.

Management Restriction

Closed (12/1 - 5/15)
No antler collecting.

Motorized Vehicle Restriction

Restricted (1/1 - 12/31)
Closed to vehicular traffic to provide walk-in recreational opportunities. Mountain bikes, and horses are allowed.

Motorized Vehicle Restriction

Open (5/15 - 8/31)
Two-wheel drive vehicle access when roads are dry.

Winter Closure

Closed (12/2 - 5/15)
Closed to protect deer and elk during the critical winter period.

Winter/Spring Closure

Closed (12/2 - 4/14)
Area (including parking area) is closed to ALL public access of any sort
