Application Support Specialist

Professional Pay Band: $30,161-$37,701

Description of Work: Provides professional and technical call center and support services for all internally developed application software for end-users. Examples of these applications includes the Automated Licensing System (ALS) and it’s second generation ALS user-interface (ALX), as well as over 40 additional internally developed applications (Block Management, Budget Allocation System, Upland Game Bird, etc) The Application Support Specialist will also perform technical help desk functions during the performance of support duties. New employees spend their first year of employment under close supervision of an administrative superior. As knowledge and experience are gained, less supervision is exercised and the opportunity to take independent action is broadened.

Examples of Duties: Duties include, at a minimum; Ensuring ALS and other application software use is effective for all providers, customers and end users; Providing helpdesk support, trouble ticket entry and routing, as well as follow up activities; Identification and initiation of ad hoc reporting; ALS device setup and shipping; Provider and end-user training; Software quality assurance and, user manual creation and maintenance. The agency expectation is for the Application Support Specialist to perform these tasks for all agency software applications.

Qualifications: The knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the duties of this position are usually acquired through obtaining a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or a closely related field and one to two years of progressively responsible experience in helpdesk duties, supporting/performing system operational tasks and system testing tasks.


Application Software Developer

Professional Pay Band: $39,478-$49,348

Description of Work: Work includes development of new computer applications, enhancement and maintenance of existing applications, work necessary to repair defective software, and work essential for effective data collection and manipulation. Efforts in this unit are technical and generally complex in nature.

Examples of Duties: Business requirements analysis, design, documentation (system, user, programming specifications), coding, testing, training, and deployment for new computer systems or major enhancements. Software defect code fixes, ongoing support and maintenance of computerized applications and processes. Adherence to established standards, participation in strategic planning, research into emerging technologies and their applicability to the work unit.

Qualifications: The knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the duties of this position are usually acquired through obtaining a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or a closely related field and three to four years of progressively responsible experience in software development and maintenance, systems analysis, system and design documentation, system implementation or integration, and software quality assurance.

 


Information System Support Specialist

Professional Pay Band: $39,448-$49,310

Description of Work: Provides hardware, software and network support for all FWP microcomputer resources within the position's designated area of responsibility. This entails providing end user support for networking, applications, hardware, and software; analysis, configuration and deployment of FWP computer systems; recommendations for upgrades and enhancements; implementation of state and agency policies and security practices; interaction with vendors and contractors; and ensuring timely and efficient delivery of Information Services to FWP users.

Example of Duties: Collects, compiles and analyzes biological data obtained from wildlife and wildlife habitat surveys according to accepted statistical procedures; writes technical reports, progress and project completion reports and articles; reviews and comments on plans and project proposals developed by other agencies, corporations and private organizations; makes formal and informal presentations to professional and public forums; conducts public participation processes; responds to game damage complaints and recommends preventative and control measures to landowners; provides technical assistance to landowners regarding habitat improvement or development; applies appropriate statistical methodologies in designing sampling techniques and analyzing and presenting data; and negotiates with landowners to secure hunter access to private lands.

Qualifications: This position requires a high degree of problem solving abilities. Un-documented problems and issues are commonplace and a thorough knowledge of the concepts and theories of data networking is essential. An understanding of switched and routed networks, protocols, client/server technologies, and superior researching skills are all a requirement for successful tenure in this position. The knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the duties of this position are usually acquired through obtaining a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or a closely related field and two to three years of progressively responsible experience in hardware, software and network support.
