Approximately 550 FWP employees across the state carry out the day-to-day stewardship of Montana’s fish, wildlife and parks resources, doing everything from counting mule deer populations to selling hunting licenses, negotiating conservation agreements with willing landowners to planning a new Fishing Access Site.
FWP’s Enforcement Division, one of seven FWP divisions, enforces the laws, hunting regulations, and Montana State Parks rules that protect Montana’s outdoors. Game wardens have peace officer status in the State of Montana and work closely with other local, state and federal law enforcement groups.
FWP wardens actively shape the outdoor values and traditions of Montana’s youth—teaching in hunter education classes, instructing at school outdoor days and assisting with other FWP and community-sponsored events.
Rain or shine, winter or summer, the work goes on.
