This layer depicts USGS 4th Code Hydrologic Unit Boundaries, which were used to define potential aquatic focus areas for the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (MTFWP) Comprehensive Fish and Wildlife Conservation Strategy (CFWCS) effort started in 2005. The USGS 4th Code HUC boundaries are available at http://nris.mt.gov/gis/gisdatalib/showDownloads.aspx?covdesc=Major%20River%20Basins%20%284th%20Code%20HUCs%29&covid=1000106. Each HUC was ranked using both quantitative and qualitative criteria and using the ranks revised based on peer review and expert opinion. For methodology relating to this ranking please visit the Montana Comprehensive Fish and Wildlife Management Strategy website at http://fwp.mt.gov/specieshabitat/strategy/default.html. In some cases adjacent HUCs were combined to form an aquatic focus area.
