Abstract: Montana lakes.
Purpose:
The primary purpose of this dataset is to provide a polygon system ideal for storing, organizing, and displaying lake related fisheries and habitat data within Montana at the best practically available source scale.

Horizontal Positional Accuracy Report: Good - lakes added by digitizing as needed

Source scale denominator: 100,000 and 24,000
Source contribution: 100K nhd, various 24k products and multiscale digitizing

Process step:
Lakes were created by first taking all the 1:100,000 scale lake layers available from the USFS and BIA. The 1:24,000 scale NHD lakes were used to fill in the gaps and other missing lakes were digitized. Lake names were updated using the USGS GNIS names and other sources. Lakes are digitized as needed from the 1:24,000 scale USGS topographic, DOQQ digital maps and National Wetlands Inventory.
