Fishing Access Sites
Ackley Lake State Park River Mile: 0
Ackley Lake is nestled right in the heart of Montana’s Big Sky Country. One glimpse and you’ll easily understand how the beautiful views of the surrounding Little Belt and Snowy Mountains and rich agricultural land captured the heart of the legendary Western artist, Charlie Russell, a hundred years ago. Today, the diverse water recreation opportunities at this 160-acre park include fishing, boating, picnicking and camping. Stocked with rainbow trout, the lake is often good angling for 10 to 15 inch fish. Ackley Lake has 15 campsites, two boat launches, vault toilets, fire rings and grills, and picnic tables. This site has “primitive park” status, therefore no camping fees are required and it is a pack-in, pack out site. There is no potable water on site, so please bring your own. On a warm summer day, enjoy the cool waters of Ackley Lake on Montana’s open plains! PLEASE NOTE: Due to rehabilitation of the Ackley Lake Dam, the east and north sides of Ackley Lake State Park will be closed to camping and other uses beginning August 25, 2008 through the end of January 2009. The camping area and boat ramp on the east side will be reopened temporarily for Labor Day weekend, Friday evening through Monday evening, and then will be closed for the duration of construction. Day use and camping facilities on the west side of Ackley Lake will remain open throughout the construction period. The west side of Ackley Lake offers nine camping shelters and a pit latrine. Lake levels will be low during construction, which may make shoreline access for fishing difficult. Boat launching via the boat ramps will not be possible due to the low levels. This construction project is necessary to make important repairs to the dam and outlet structure, and improve the auxiliary spillways. It is anticipated that lake levels will be returned to normal for the 2009 recreation season.  Seasonal. Contact the regional office for open and closure dates.  160 acre(s).
NOTE: All river Fishing Access Sites (FAS) are listed in descending order by river mile from headwaters to mouth. The mouth of a stream is its confluence with another body of water and is considered mile 0.
