Migration
In the Bozeman area the migration period is April 20 to May 30 in spring, with no discernable movement in fall. The peak in spring occurs around May 15 (Skaar 1969).

Habitat
In the Bozeman area, the species prefers the marshy borders of ponds, lakes, streams and irrigation ditches (Skaar 1969).

Reproductive Characteristics
In the Flathead Valley, 15 of 22 nest records were for July.
