The Montana Game Wardens Association hosted the 2008 North American Wildlife Enforcement Officers Association (NAWEOA) Conference in Great Falls, Montana, hometown of the great western artist, Charlie Russell.
The conference theme for 2008 was Back to the Beginning-an appropriate name because it was 27 years ago in Great Falls that a dedicated group of officers first met and formed the NAWEOA. In those 27 years, the organization has grown to include more than 8,000 officers, and it has remained international in scope and membership.
Over 460 registered participants attended the 2008 conference from all over the United States, as well as several Canadian provinces, and many brought along their family members. Participants in the week-long conference were treated to a valuable program confronting the many social, political and logistical challenges of being a wildlife officer in the 21st Century.
