Bear Rehabilitation

Black Bears

The Montana Fish Wildlife & Parks Wildlife Center (MWC) has worked for over a half century to rescue some of Montana's most treasured wildlife. The MWC receives primarily black bears that have been orphaned for many different reasons. The goal of the MWC is to return all of the animals back to the wild.

  • Bear Denning and Release Project
As an alternative to euthanasia, this MWC project works to rescue, dens, and releases orphaned bear cubs. Significant cooperation occurs to feed and care for the cubs until late fall. While the cubs hibernate in man-made dens, they are transported into the wild.
