(Ulm, MT) Montana State Parks (stateparks.mt.gov) announced today:

What: Join us for First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park's: Annual Montana Atlatl Mammoth Hunt.

Come and try your hand at an ancient form of hunting the atlatl, a 10,000-year-old weapon that predates the bow and arrow. Regional members of the World Atlatl Association, in conjunction with Montana State Parks staff will provide the opportunity for visitors to learn about and practice with this unique weapon. Visitors also will have the chance to shoot primitive bows and to throw tomahawks and knives. Join park staff and volunteers to learn more about these weapons and to try using them. All ages invited.

When: Labor Day Weekend 2013 (August 31, Sept. 1 and 2): Saturday, Sunday and Monday (from 9am-5pm each day)

The park is 3.5 miles north of Ulm, just off of Interstate 15 at Exit 270.

Who: People of all ages. This event is FREE for Montana residents. A park entrance fee of $5.00 per vehicle applies to non-residents.

First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park is one of the largest buffalo jumps in North America. The visitor center and interpretive trails tell the story of the people, the animals and the landscape of the buffalo culture. In the 2012 summer season, more than 15,000 people visited this state park.
