This buffalo jump was used for thousands of years by native people who would gather to hunt and feast. The history of tribes that used the site are reflected in the visitor center's diorama, which displays traditional and essential everyday items. Featured in the park store are interpretive and educational items that reflect the history and culture of the Plains people; books, clothing and other Montana handcrafted specialty items by Native area artists are available for purchase. Unique items include a Montana handcrafted par fleche trunk, bound with rawhide and highlighted on the top and sides with brightly hand painted horse and buffalo figures, a traditional rawhide pipe bag with intricate turquoise, red and brown beadwork with tribal markings, and an original framed oil painting, entitled "Arrow Creek at Dawn" by Rabbit Knows Gun, a Crow tribal member.
The original artwork is only available in limited quantities. Before purchasing these items, inquiries should be made by contacting First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park at (406) 866-2217.
